Kids Engineering Day brings STEM fun to Benton City

Feature story

On March 2, the halls of Kiona-Benton City Elementary School buzzed with excitement as nearly 200 kids and family members got hands-on with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) activities at the annual Kids Engineering Day event.

From constructing electrical circuits to building intricate molecules from gumdrops and toothpicks, the event showcased a variety of fun activities designed to ignite curiosity in STEM.

Energy Northwest’s Women in Nuclear (WIN) group has organized the event since 2013. This year's event was supported by more than 50 volunteers from organizations including Energy Northwest, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, the Reach Museum, Framatome, American Chemical Society, Mid-Columbia Library, Mid-Columbia Children's Museum, and LIGO Hanford.
