The Association of Washington Business (AWB) recognized Energy Northwest's dedication to providing employment opportunities for veterans with the Veterans & Families Award.

Energy Northwest CEO Bob Schuetz accepted the award on behalf of the agency at AWB's annual Evening of Excellence ceremony Nov. 17 in Seattle.

“We believe that recruiting from the military community brings our organization a culture of resilience, teamwork and the ability to conquer the toughest challenges," Schuetz said.

Energy Northwest's workforce is more than 300 military veterans strong – nearly 31% of employees. For the ninth year in a row, Energy Northwest was recognized as a Military Friendly Employer.

“Without the help of our veterans, we would not be able to operate a top-performing nuclear plant or continue to provide safe and reliable energy to our community," Schuetz said.

The AWB Veterans & Families Award recognizes employers who have developed and applied hiring and retention best practices for addressing the employment challenged faced by veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses.

“We are incredibly grateful for this recognition and for the spirit of service that our veterans bring to our agency."

AWB is Washington's oldest and largest statewide business association and serves as both the state's chamber of commerce and the manufacturing and technology association. In 2016, AWB named Energy Northwest Employer of the Year.
