Curt Knapp was appointed in February 2002 to the Pend Oreille Public Utility District Board of Commissioners and has since been elected in 2003 and re-elected 2009. He was appointed to the Energy Northwest Board of Directors in January 2011 and elected board president in January 2019, previously he held the secretary and assistant secretary positions.
During his service with the Pend Oreille PUD Commission, Knapp was appointed the voting member to the Washington Public Utility District Association, and has served on the Budget, Telecom, Legislative and Roundtable Committees. In April 2013, he was elected to serve as president of WPUDA and will chair their board of directors meetings as well as the executive board.
For the past 11 years Knapp has actively participated with many organizations including the Pend Oreille Economic Development Council, Pend Oreille River Commission, Public Utility Risk Management Services and the Northwest Open Access Network.
Prior to being appointed, Commissioner Knapp obtained a degree in psychology, with a business minor from Central Washington University, and a degree of mortuary science from Mt. Hood Community College.
He and his wife, Kim worked for more than 25 years in the funeral industry having owned and operated funeral homes in Newport, Wash. and Priest River, Idaho. Knapp still serves as Deputy Coroner in Pend Oreille County.
Being civic-minded, Commissioner Knapp has served on the board of several organizations, including Kiwanis, Newport Booster Club, Citizens Promoting Public Schools and the Inland Empire Funeral Directors Association. He was also a Civil Service commissioner for the City of Newport for 12 years, Pend Oreille County Cemetery board member for 21 years, a member of the Newport-Oldtown Chamber of Commerce and is starting his 26th year with the Newport Volunteer Fire Department, retiring from the position of Fire Chief in 2013.
He enjoys living on the Pend Oreille River, woodworking, bicycling, camping, hiking and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
