Commissioner, Kittitas County PUD
Roger Sparks has been a Kittitas County Public Utility District commissioner since 1974. Commissioner Sparks became a member of the Energy Northwest Board of Directors in 1981 and served as board president from 1987 to 1995. Commissioner Sparks served on the Energy Northwest Executive Board from June 1994 to June 2006. He is a strong proponent of public power and regarded his seat on the executive board as a “rarely granted privilege, which carries with it a heavy responsibility to do what is best for the ratepayers.”
After serving as a lieutenant junior grade in the Navy, Mr. Sparks worked briefly for General Dynamics Centaur program. From 1963 to the present, he has owned and operated Second Century Farms Inc. in Ellensburg, Wash.
Commissioner Sparks holds a degree in agricultural engineering from the University of Idaho. His hobbies include amateur radio, amateur seismology and the study of physics, mechanics and alternative forms of energy. He and his wife reside in Ellensburg, Wash.
