Nancy Barnes was first elected to the Clark Public Utilities Board of Commissioners in 1992.  She was re-elected in 1998, 2004 and 2010; her current term expires in 2016. 

She has served as president of the Washington Public Utility District Association, board member of the American Public Power Association and member of the Policy Maker’s Council.  She is currently on the Energy Northwest Board of Directors. 

Commissioner Barnes earned a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in English and journalism.  She currently works in two family-owned businesses, a tax accounting practice and a payroll services company.

Before her first election to the utility's board she was an active volunteer in various community organizations including her neighborhood association, boy scouts, youth sports, school committees, Share House, CASA and Meals on Wheels. She liked to list her preparation for utility service and elective office as “typical consumer and taxpayer”. 

Commissioner Barnes is married to Daniel Barnes and they have five grown children and twelve grandchildren. She has resided in east Clark County for nearly 30 years.
