Si-COAT

Si-COAT 570 HVIC is a spray application room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) polysiloxane (silicone fluid) coating. It’s unique and patented formulation provides a highly hydrophobic (water resistive) surface for its entire life. Its’ insulating properties are not significantly affected by UV light, chemical contaminants, salt, extreme temperatures or corrosive environments. This product has a unique feature, it is self healing.  As contamination settles on the coated insulator surface, the siloxane fluid will rise to the surface from the coating base material and encapsulate the contaminating particle in a layer of insulating siloxane molecules.  This means that insulator washing is no longer required for the lifetime of the insulator.

The Concept:

Power outages caused by dirty insulator flashover are an expensive problem to industries that require an uninterrupted power supply. Flashovers cause downtime and unnecessary expenses.

Also, high leakage currents to ground can cause power loss of from three to 10 percent of the power transmitted on a transmission line greater than 50 miles in length.

Insulator flashovers are a result of contamination that settles on the insulator surface. When combined with moisture, leakage current develops and it can lead to a flashover event. Older methods to prevent flashover such as frequent water washing or greasing are time consuming and costly.
