Located southeast of Kennewick, Washington, overlooking the Columbia River and greater Tri-Cities metropolitan area, Energy Northwest’s 49-turbine Nine Canyon Wind Project is the largest public power wind station in the country. Nine Canyon began commercial operation on September 25, 2002, and has a generation capacity of 63.7 megawatts.
Nine Canyon Wind Project offers on-site, self-guided tours, seven days a week.
Public tours of Nine Canyon Wind Project are available every other Friday from March through November (depending on weather), starting at 1:00 p.m.
Nine Canyon tours consist of a 20-30 minute briefing and a walk up to one of the turbines for a closer look at the exterior and interior. Total time at the site: approximately 1½ hours.
Visitors are also encouraged to check out the information panels at the entrance to the site. These panels are always accessible to those who may wish to visit the site during evenings and weekends.

Unlike Columbia Generating Station, age restrictions do not apply to visitors of Nine Canyon Wind Project. To ensure your comfort, we suggest that you wear layered clothing and comfortable shoes. We also recommend hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen during summer months. No clothing restrictions apply.
