RICHLAND, Wash. – Public power agency Energy Northwest will host a public information meeting at the Benton PUD auditorium Friday evening (Sept. 29) from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. to discuss plans to install additional turbines at its Nine Canyon Wind Project south of Kennewick.
The meeting is a voluntary community service offered by Energy Northwest to share details of its plans to add 14 wind power turbines to the 49 currently operating at the site. The expansion will grow the project to 63 turbines and boost maximum output by 50 percent, from 64 to 96 megawatts.
Phase III is considered the final expansion opportunity for the project on the current leasehold surrounding its namesake canyon.
The anticipated development timeline could have the new turbines producing electricity for the region as early as December 2007.
Energy Northwest is a joint operating agency comprising 20 public power member utilities from throughout the State of Washington.
In addition to the Nine Canyon Wind Project, Energy Northwest owns and operates Columbia Generating Station (nuclear power plant), Packwood Lake Hydroelectric Project, and White Bluffs Solar Station. The joint operating agency also provides operations and maintenance services for other facilities.
