Excess nuclear equipment sales net $5.25M for BPA

RICHLAND, WASH. - Energy Northwest is sending the Bonneville Power Administration $5.25M in proceeds from the sale of excess equipment from a partially completed nuclear power plant north of here.

Two diesel-powered emergency generators netted $3.5M. The balance of the funds came from the sale of specialized metal tubing and equipment intended to circulate water to cool the planned power plant. The unfinished nuclear power project was funded by BPA. Accordingly, proceeds from the sale of surplus equipment and materials go back to the federal agency.

Energy Northwest is a joint operating agency chartered under Washington state law. They own and, or operate nuclear, wind, hydroelectric and solar power projects in the state.

In addition to selling off excess equipment items, Energy Northwest is working with Washington’s Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council and BPA to restore portions of the unused nuclear site. That effort is expected to yield large industrial grade facilities available for commercial lease in early 2006.
