Pacific Mountain Energy Center

An Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle Power Plant

(Artist Rendering 2005)

Energy Northwest is developing a 680-megawatt gas-fueled power plant in Kalama, Washington. The Pacific Mountain Energy Center (PMEC) at the Port of Kalama will use Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) technology and consist of a state-of-the-art gasification facility and two combined-cycle power plants -- one publicly owned, the other private. Energy Northwest filed its license application with the state Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council in September 2006. Construction could begin in 2008 with the PMEC producing electricity to meet the region’s growing needs by 2012.

The PMEC development will supply up to half of the anticipated 1 – 2% Northwest load growth and help keep power costs low for ratepayers and businesses. Development is expected to cost more than $1.5 billion and will provide several hundred prevailing wage construction jobs. Approximately 100 permanent jobs will be created to operate the completed facility.
